The annual Alternative Clean Transportation Expo, held May 15-17 this year at the Long Beach Convention Center in California, brings together industry experts from across the country to provide insight on the latest in alternative fuel and clean vehicle technology.

This conference is jam-packed with information for fleet owners and managers interested in switching to alternative fuel, whether to save money on fuel costs or drive cleaner. From heavy-duty trucking to light-duty vehicle fleets, domestic fuels like propane autogas and to electric vehicle technology, the ACT Expo provides a wealth of informative sessions to help fleet operators make the most cost-effective choice when it comes to adopting green vehicles.

Representatives from propane autogas industry organizations Alliance AutoGas partner Blue Star Gas, ROUSH CleanTech and the Propane Education and Research Council will be on hand to discuss how autogas can help fleets cut costs and emissions, while the VP of Schwan’s Home Service is set to speak about their company’s massive propane autogas fleet rollout.

Visit the ACT Expo website for more information, including a complete event agenda and a list of free training sessions, including Propane Autogas 101.

As the ACT Expo website asks: “What role will your fleet, fuel, vehicle, or technology play in the shift towards alternative fuels?”

Be sure to follow @AllianceAutoGas for the latest news affecting your fleet.

Georgia Sheriff Credits Propane AutoGas for Massive Arrest… http://www.autogasfleet.com/2010/10/georgia-sheriff-credits-propane-autogas-for-massive-arrest/ http://www.autogasfleet.com/2010/10/georgia-sheriff-credits-propane-autogas-for-massive-arrest/#comments Mon, 25 Oct 2010 21:03:07 +0000 http://autogasfleet.com/?p=222 Continue reading ]]> …of Carbon Emissions!

What were you expecting me to say?

A story about the vehicles’ extended range – from its unique bi-fuel system using propane AutoGas – leading to an arrest after a 400 mile high-speed chase through streets of Atlanta before ending in a shootout with armed suspects carrying a weapons cache in their backseat of their vehicle – that ran out of gas- as the officers took refuge behind their extremely puncture resistant tank located inside the vehicle that still allowed them to drive the suspects back to the precinct after the day’s unbelievable circumstance because the clean-burning fuel ensured a healthy engine that can run long after its expected lifetime?

You can tell it's high-speed becuase it's blurry

Well, I’m sorry. I don’t have that for you. I want that too. But all I have is a story about how one Sheriff’s efforts and leadership will save thousands of dollars for the citizens in his county while simultaneously protecting their health…for now.

Until the great AutoGas chase occurs, read the full story about Sheriff Darr of Georgia and his department’s new vehicles here.

Texting Bans Don’t Actually Help http://www.autogasfleet.com/2010/10/texting-bans-dont-actually-help/ http://www.autogasfleet.com/2010/10/texting-bans-dont-actually-help/#comments Fri, 01 Oct 2010 17:13:30 +0000 http://autogasfleet.com/?p=193 Continue reading ]]> Since I never text while driving (my laptop fits perfectly in my lap between body and steering wheel) this information doesn’t concern me, but I felt it my duty to keep you updated on latest industry safety reports.

Because that email has to go out right now

According to a recent study done by the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI), bans on texting while driving have not cut crashes at all, and in some states crashes due to texting have increased. “How does that even work?” you might ask. Good question. Apparently, now that it is illegal to text drivers have responded by trying to hide their phones while they text. This usually translates into the driver having to look down even further, increasing the chance of a crash.

Basically, texting bans have made texting even deadlier. Irony. What needs to happen? Do our state governments need to cut the ban? Perhaps we should ban drivers from looking down? Maybe texting should just be illegal in general? Let me know what you think.

Managing A Fleet Is Becoming More Expensive…If You Didn’t Already Know http://www.autogasfleet.com/2010/09/managing-a-fleet-is-becoming-more-expensive-if-you-didnt-already-know/ http://www.autogasfleet.com/2010/09/managing-a-fleet-is-becoming-more-expensive-if-you-didnt-already-know/#comments Tue, 28 Sep 2010 15:10:40 +0000 http://autogasfleet.com/?p=187 Continue reading ]]> In May of 2008 Mike Antich of Automotive Fleet online magazine wrote a wonderful article entitled Trends in Commercial Fleet Management 2008-2010. (Spoiler alert: trend = everything about running a fleet will get harder and more expensive). It’s very good, please read it (note: that was written with no sarcasm).

Then in 2010, almost two years after his first article, Antich comes back and writes The Cost of Operating a Fleet Will Increase. Reading this was a bit like watching Sean Connery in Thunderball….then in Never Say Never Again. Do you get what I am saying? They’re basically the same article.

However, like Sean Connery, it was never wrong. But these two articles merely mentioned alternative fuels without much else. Propane has massive potential to combat many of these increased prices and “trends.” Fuel, maintenance, and safety costs are all lowered when switching to AutoGas. There is no longer a need to purchase new vehicles when you can convert. On top of that since propane burns cleaner, the vehicles will last longer.

I saw the data a few days ago, and I remember hoping that this would become a new, annual trend. Luckily, it can be thanks to Mobileye.

Safety is an extremely important part of fleet management. You have to account not only for your drivers but also everyone on the road with them. Mobileye provides a service that can greatly reduce dangers to drivers and pedestrians. How do they do this? Well, with magic of course. Mobileye CEO Isaac Litman says, “… and best of all, drivers can drive reassured with the feeling that an extra eye is constantly at work in the car…” Like I said-Magic.

I have no clue if this is how it sees, but then again I've never had an extra eye driving with me

Check out the original article over at Fleet Daily for a much more detailed look at the magic of Mobileye and consider investing in a safety program for your fleet. Let’s not make it another 60 years before we have good news to report as far as traffic accidents go.
